Welcome to the Plantola Support Center!

Plantola is a mobile app that you can download on iOS phones running iOS7 or later. You must create your account using the Plantola mobile app.

To start using Plantola:

  1. Download the Plantola mobile app for iOS from the App Store
  2. Once the app is installed, tap to open it
  3. Tap Sign Up and enter your name, email address and password and tap Create or tap Connect with Facebook to sign up with your Facebook account
  4. If you register with email, you will need to tap Log In after you have created your account. Enter the email address and password associated with your account and tap Login. If you register with Facebook, you'll be prompted to log into your Facebook account if you're currently logged out
Forgot your password? To create a new password for your Plantola account tap Log In and click on Forgot your password? Enter the email address associated with your account. A message will be sent to this address containing a link to a web page where a new password can be created. Once you have created a new password, open the Plantola mobile app and Log In. Please note, only users that have created a Plantola account with an email address can change their password
Upon Log In into the Plantola mobile app you will see the Global Feed. You can navigate back to the Global Feed by tapping . All plants posted to Plantola are displayed in the Global Feed. Details visible in the Global Feed include …

  • the image(s) of the plant
  • the name and avatar of the person/business that posted the plant
  • the date plant was posted
  • the number of comments
  • the number of likes
  • your relationship to that user, whether you Follow them or not
The more time you spend on Plantola, the more likely you will find people with similar interests. You can keep track of peoples plants by following them in the Global Feed. Tap on the Follow label below one of that person’s plants in the Global Feed. The label will change to read Followed. Once you have followed a person, their plants will be displayed in the Friends Feed. You can navigate back to the Friends Feed by tapping . Remove people from the Friends Feed by unfollowing the user using the same process
Plantola will help you catalog & share images of plants. To post a Plant, tap the Add Plant icon in the upper right hand corner of the app. All plants require at least one image. Tap the Add Image icon and take a new picture with the Camera or load an existing image from your Photo Album. You can add up to 4 images per plant post.

You can also add additional information about the plant like …

  • the plant’s common name
  • the plant’s botanical name
  • any notes you wish to add
  • where that plant was obtained (there are more than 200 Ontario-based independent garden centers in the system. These stores are displayed based on their proximity to the phone.)
  • and the category of plant (Annual, Perennial, Vegetable, Woody, etc.)
  • the plant’s relationship to the user, where it is something they Have or Want
The Profile Page is a collection of information related to each account. You can access the Profile Page by tapping on the Profile Page icon c in the top left hand corner of the app.

The profile page contains the following information …

  • the user’s name and avatar
  • the users plants (the My Plants collection are plants you Have, the Wish List collection are plants you want, including the last 25 plants you have liked.)
  • the independent nurseries and garden centres you deal with (any nursery or garden center you have liked will be displayed in the My Nursery collection. (you can like a nursery or garden centre by clicking the Like icon in the top right corner of the business’s corresponding Business Page. The Business Page is accessible through the Source link in the Plant Page.)

Clicking on plant or business in the Profile will take you to the corresponding Plant Page or Business Page.
Plantola contains listings for more than 200 independent nurseries and garden centers across the province of Ontario, Canada. When posting plants, people can indicate where that plant was obtained by selecting one of the businesses listed in the Source tab of the Plant Page.

Once that business has been associated with that plant, clicking on the business name in the Pant Page will open the corresponding Plant Page.

The Business Page Contains the following information …

  • the name of the business
  • the business logo or sign
  • the hours of operation
  • contact information, including phone, email and website
  • a short description of the business (when available)
  • the address of the business, and it’s position on a map
  • your relationship to that business. Whether you like it or not. (Liking a business by tapping the Like icon in the top right corner of the business page adds that business to your My Nurseries collection in the Profile Page.)

Don’t see your garden centre on the list? Please let us know here.
Liking a Plant posted by someone else let’s them know that you appreciate what they shared. The last 25 plants you like will also be added to your Wish List collection in the Profile Page. You can like a plant after it has been posted. Navigate to the plant’s corresponding Plant Page and tap on the Like icon. The icon will change to once it has been liked. Unlike a plant by using the same process.
Sometimes you have something to say. To comment on a plant, navigate to the plant’s Plant Page. Enter your comment into the Comment Box at the bottom of the Plant Page. Comments are posted in descending order based on the time they are posted.
Any plant posted on Plantola can be shared by email, Twitter or Facebook. You will need a Twitter or Facebook account in order to share a plant using these services. To share a plant, navigate to the plant’s corresponding Plant Page and tap the Share icon in the top right corner of the app. Select the channel being used (Twitter, Facebook or Email), edit the message and post. The first image of the plant is also embedded in the message.
You can edit the information in the Plant Page after the plant has been posted. To edit a plant, navigate to the plant’s corresponding Plant Page and click on the Edit link below the plant image. Once you have made your changes, re-post the plant by tapping the Post button in the top right corner of the app.
You will receive notifications on your iPhone when someone Likes or Comments on one of your plants. Clicking on a notification will open the corresponding Plant Page in the app.
Everything you post on Plantola is visible to the entire Plantola community. See something inappropriate? Plant Pages can be flagged and removed for editorial review. To flag a plant, navigate the plant’s corresponding Plant Page and tap the Flag icon below the plant image.
Plantola is a place for gardeners and plant enthusiasts to share images of plants used in ornamental horticulture (the plants in your yard), and food production (the plants your vegetable garden). Want to share other images? Perhaps you should check out Instagram or another general use photo sharing application. We reserve the right to remove pictures and comments or any other content we deem unacceptable in our sole discretion, including removing user names, profile pictures, and accounts.
